Where Must AEDs Be Supplied?

Because many heart attacks happen away from home, and far away from medical facilities, many businesses and public places have started carrying automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in order to help save lives. In fact, there are many states that now require AEDs be made available in certain public places to ensure that life-saving care is available nearby.

AEDs administer a shock to a person’s heart in an effort to get the heart beating again. If used correctly, they can help the individual survive until more in-depth treatment can be provided. Some of the locations that may be required to maintain AEDs include:

  • Schools, especially those holding athletic events
  • Courthouses, airports and other federal buildings
  • Sports stadiums and concert halls
  • Malls and restaurants
  • Gyms and golf courses
  • Museums
  • Zoos and other tourist-type attractions

Is A Business Responsible For Your Loved One’s Suffering?

Many states allow individuals to bring lawsuits against a business that negligently fails to maintain an AED, fails to properly train personnel on the use of the AED or individuals who improperly administered care via these devices. If you have suffered serious injuries or have lost a loved one due to AED negligence or misuse, you may have a claim for compensation against the responsible parties.
