$1.9 Million Personal Injury Settlement in Defective Vehicle Case
June 12, 2009 – Rapoport Law Offices, P.C. today completed a $1.9 million personal injury settlement on behalf of two men injured in the crash of a defective television news satellite van. The van manufacturer equipped the vehicle with the wrong type of tire and sold it in that condition, creating a danger that led to a tire blowout and caused the van to crash head-on into oncoming traffic. The driver of the van and his passenger are television news cameramen who were driving the van on their way to cover a story when the crash occurred. Both men suffered serious injuries in the crash. They brought personal injury claims against the van manufacturer, the tire supplier and other companies involved in maintaining the van. Rapoport Law Offices, P.C. obtained $700,000.00 in settlements with the non-manufacturer defendants and was prepared to go to trial against the manufacturer. On the day before trial was to begin the manufacturer agreed to pay the injured men an additional $1.2 million. The lead trial attorney on the case was Michael L. Teich.
