$540,000 Shelby Illinois Jury Verdict Sets County Record

October 24, 2006 - A jury in Shelby, IL returned a combined verdict of $540,000 to a 46 year old woman and her 25 year old son who were seriously injured in an auto collision on November 2, 2004. The woman suffered a compression fractured vertebrae and was awarded $420,000, and her son, a police officer, suffered torn meniscus in his right knee, for which he was awarded $120,000. The verdicts are the largest jury awards ever reported in Shelby County for these types of injuries, according to jury verdict data tracked by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.

The plaintiff's trial team was led by Joshua L. Weisberg, who commented after the verdict: "The victims of this crash are good people who suffered life altering injuries through no fault of their own. We demonstrated to the jury the severity and life altering impact of these injuries, and we are pleased that the jury compensated them appropriately."
