Jon Papin concentrates his practice exclusively on personal injury and wrongful death matters including those involving medical malpractice, commercial truck and motor vehicle negligence and premises and workplace safety. Mr. Papin has been involved in hundreds of cases during his career, first as a defense attorney representing doctors, hospitals and insurance companies in cases involving medical malpractice and, more recently, as a member of Rapoport Law Offices, P.C., representing the victims of medical malpractice and other negligent acts. Mr. Papin's extensive experience handling medical malpractice cases has yielded a wealth of knowledge and resources in matters involving improper or delayed diagnosis, improper or delayed treatment, poorly performed surgeries, brain damage and birth trauma, unnecessary surgeries, dangerous medications, improper prescriptions and improperly filled prescriptions.
Since joining Rapoport Law Offices in 2002, Mr. Papin has successfully prosecuted many cases. In 2008, as lead trial attorney, Jon Papin obtained a $9.858 million dollar jury verdict in Cook County Illinois. This verdict, received on behalf of a medical student who was seriously injured while receiving an osteopathic treatment of her neck from a fellow medical student, is the highest verdict for complex regional pain syndrome reported in any Illinois venue. A $5.6 million dollar settlement obtained for a case involving a birth injury in which Mr. Papin was lead lawyer was noted by The Cook County Illinois Jury Verdict Reporter as the highest ever reported from Vermilion County. In addition Mr. Papin has collected $5.5 million on behalf of a toddler who suffered brain damage from Reyes Syndrome, $2.9 million for the family of a child who died as a result of injuries sustained at birth, $2.7 million for a wrongful death resulting from an undiagnosed subarachnoid hemorrhage, $1.7 million for the wrongful death of a two year old child, and $1.45 million for a wrongful death resulting from an undiagnosed pulmonary embolism. Other notable results include $1.75 million against an Illinois hospital for failure to properly diagnose and treat compartment syndrome, $1.35 million on behalf of a client who underwent unnecessary surgery as a result of a pathology mix up following a breast biopsy at an Illinois hospital, $1.2 million in a case involving the failure to treat acute pancreatitis, and $1.1 million in a case involving the failure to diagnose a vascular abnormality leading to a below knee amputation.
